About Us

Davies and Jones have been providing quality evidence based eyecare to the Rhondda and surrounding areas for around 50 years first as Eric Davies’ then L.D.J. and D.E. Davies’ and as our current incarnation since 2004. We strive to provide the best possible patient care, we have invested heavily in the most up to date clinics including Test Chart 2000, Corneal topographers, Heidleberg Retinal Tomographs, Ocular Coherence Tomographs, Optomap Retinal Scanning, Fundus Photography, Humphrey and Henson Visual Field Analysers

The practices are owned and run by Mr Lionel Davies and Mr Ian Jones who have both been deeply involved with the development of the profession through the Welsh Optical Committee, Optometry Wales, South East Wales Regional Optometric Comittee, Local Optometric Development Groups and in other national and local optical bodies.

All our Optometrists are Members or Fellows of the College of Optometrists and all hold Welsh Eye Care Initiative and Primary Eye-care Acute Referral qualifications.

Ian Jones

Ian Graduated from Aston University in Birmingham in 1983 he has worked in South Wales ever since, joining Davies and Jones over ten years ago.

Ian is a past chairman of South Wales Regional Optical Committee, is current chair of the Welsh Optical Committee and a Director of the LOC Support Unit. He is heavily involved in the development of eye-care on a local and national level.

Lionel Davies

Lionel followed his father into the family business after he gained his degree in Ophthalmic Optics from the University of Wales Institute of Science and Technology. He is a Fellow of the College of Optometry.

In 2005 he was presented with an award for services to the profession by the Association of Optometrists in recognition of his work in setting up the Welsh- Eye-care Initiative and specifically the Primary Eyecare Acute Referral Service which is held as the most successful model for eye-care in the UK and has been taken up in Scotland and continues to develop across England.

He is a former chairman of the Welsh Optical Committee and South Wales Optical Committee.

We have had our own laboratory since 1970 allowing us complete control and supervision of the glazing of your spectacles. The current laboratory equipment is from Essilor, probably the best equipment on the market today.  All our laboratory staff hold qualifications from the Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers.
